Man Dies When Rogue Wave Hits Cruise Ship

ABC news reported that an 85 year old male cruise passenger, on board the MS Marco Polo, was killed on Friday, February 14th, in the afternoon, after a freak wave hit the cruise ship. The Marco Polo cruise ship, is a smaller British ship, at approximately 578 ft. long, and 77 ft. wide. The news broadcasted that the ship was only 288 ft long, but that information is incorrect. The MS Marco Polo can hold up to 820 passengers, but the ship was about 100 people shy of that amount on this particular cruise. Another passenger was flown off the ship by helicopter, and 14 other passengers were injured. The ship was in the English Channel, when 80 mph winds caused waves to hit the ship. The ship had been sailing on this particular itinerary since January 5th, and was headed back to return to its home port of Tilbury. Review of the Cruise Ship - Norwegian Dawn

NORWEGIAN DAWN BUILT: 2002 REFURBISHED: 2005 WEIGHT: 92,250 tons REGISTERED: Bahamas LENGTH: 965 ft. BEAM: 105 ft. CAPACITY: 2,224 passengers DECKS: 14 We cruised on Norwegian Dawn on November 2007. This is my personal experience of our cruise on this beautiful ship. We arrived in Miami, Florida via a charter bus around 12:30pm. Embarkation was a little hectic, but only because of the large crowd that was waiting to get onboard. Reminded me of a busy day at a theme park while waiting in line to get on the best attraction ride at the park. Norwegian Dawn is a truly beautiful ship, inside and out. Her hull is decorated with the Statue of Liberty on one side, and a Dolphin on the other. Our oceanview stateroom (Deck 4 - stateroom 4576), had a porthole window. Royal Caribbean's Majesty of the Seas Cruise Ship

MAJESTY OF THE SEAS Our very first cruise that we ever went on, was Royal Caribbean's beautiful Majesty of the Seas. Come along with me, as I discuss what it was like on our very first cruise. EMBARKATION: We arrived around noon. Getting on the ship went very smoothly. Was on the ship in a matter of minutes. SHIP INFO: Majesty was just as beautiful this time as she was the first time we sailed on her. STATEROOM: We were already aware that the staterooms on Majesty are very small, and with us having 2 adults and 2 teenagers in the same room, it made it even smaller. But we adjusted and coped and everything worked out fine. Since my husband and I were up earlier than the kids, then we were able to shower and get out of the room, to allow them time to shower and get dressed.
